10: Beginner: Acoustic Scales

John-Paul Gentile

3 different ways to play the same Major scale.

All in key of A – 5th fret on the E string

Starting with the 4th position – meaning you start on the 4th finger. Each finger is assigned a fret.

Scales are moveable – slide your finger to the note you want to start on.

Once you master going up the scale, make sure you start going back down.

Next, 2nd position.

Then, 1st position. This position involves some stretching.

Learn each individual one. Practice 15 minutes a day. Use a metronome – whatever the slowest pace is for your fingers will be the BPM you’re going to use.

Eventually you’ll start combining them – 4th, into 2nd, into 1st

Start learning in other scales by moving up one “dot” at a time

Say the numbers as you’re going up the scale. It will help you implement the number system.
