Key of G – 6th string for this exercise.
JP shows how to play the inversion, 3rd in the bass (3 over 1). Find the octave, have your pointer finger play the 1 note, the ring finger play the 3rd (7th fret of E string)and the little finger plays the 5th (7th fret of G string).
JP shows multiple finger positions to play the inversion (5 over 1, and 1 over 7), depending on how you need to cut through the mix. Also how to add the major 7.
The easiest way to learn it is to find the G in every chord.
You can swap the bass note to be the high note, especially useful if the song is being played down low and needs some lift. The chord stays the same but you can change how it sounds.
JP spends some time showing how the chords can be playing in inversions to create interest in a song. By using inversions you can start to direct the music somewhere.
